I miss "switching" people

I've been asked for the umpteenth time why I am NOT "switching" this holiday.

For the past 3 years, I've always been working part time at this work place during the semester break holiday. I guess all my friends and family are so accustom to my routine that they would assume I will be working at the same place this holiday. Ironically this holiday, I am not following the norm. I've decided to stay home, and spend more time with my family (my mom and grandma in particular).

I've always enjoy working at the place. It has become my second home every time I am back to Penang for holiday because of the amount of time I would spend there. I've made so many valuable friendships there, learned so much and discovered something I didn't know I could do 3 years ago before I join the company.

Truthfully speaking, I really, really miss working there. I miss interacting with customers from all walks of life. I miss the time helping customers "switch" easily. I miss touching and testing out all the gadgets available in the shop. I miss the early morning gathering/training session with my colleagues. I miss receiving salary which I could use to spend lavishly on myself.

But for all that I am missing right now, I know spending more time with my family is much more important and valuable that is beyond comparison to the amount of money I will be earning if I were to work instead.

So at the meantime, while spending more time at home, I am working on a few personal projects and hopefully I will be able to launch it by January 2010 (which is in a few more days).

Wish me luck! :D

A Smile For Every Moment

I just realize i have not update the blog with assignments from my previous semester.

So here it is, I am gonna share with you the first project that my group members and I presented to a whole group of special guest who are prominent people from local motion graphics / advertising industry. (*Remember my previous post, 29 hours to go... where I wrote about how anxious, nervous and excited I was for my first presentation of the semester)

For this project, I've team up with under18carbon and pop to form Lucid. Teaming up with both of them is indeed a blessing. Working together on the project has been indeed fun and I really really miss pop's jokes session!

For this project, we are required to rebrand any "Buatan Malaysia" (Malaysian Products) products of our own choice. After a few meetings and discussions, the group finally decide to brand Cupcake Chic because of many reason and the potential for cupcakes to grow among local consumers. Based on our interview with the co-founder of Cupcake Chic and based on our market research on the products, 3 of us came out with a branding solution and a TVC (television commercial).

So here it is :

Money-less

Sigh. I am money-less this holiday since I am not planning to work :( And this is not a good news for a gadget freak like me - especially when it comes to PHOTOGRAPHY!

Photography is indeed an expensive hobby and I am currently having a photography fever with a new lomo flu.

There're just so many things the "gadget freak" wanna get.... Currently she's in between 2 lomo cameras,

Fujifilm Instax Mini 7 (White edition)

Price at: around RM280 for the white edition (limited edition).

I've always wanted a Polaroid camera and since it has been discontinued, this little white fellow here is the perfect replacement. Maintenance is quite a expensive since each film cartridge cost Rm23.50 for 10 exposures. Expensive, but it is gonna be so fun to have each precious moments captured and printed on a credit card size film!

or

a Nico Digi or a Minimo (both are digital lomo keychain camera)

Price: Rm300 (together with 4 filters + delivery)

Price: RM313 (including 4 wonderlens + delivery)

These 2 mini cameras are quite a hit now in both Japan and Taiwan. And I've been eyeing this for quite a while already. It is perfect because of its small size that makes it portable and best of all, there's no need of films. Just plug and transfer to the computer. But the disadvantage, there's no lcd panel for preview. It has to be transfered to the computer for viewing.

If I only I can plant a tree that grows money...........I will buy all 3 :P ahhahaha

Without Words

For the last 2 days, I've been hopelessly attached to youtube and vikii, streaming and watching the current top korean drama - You're Beautiful. (Yea. I am super free now that I am living like a healthy pig - sleep before 12am and wake up around 7-8am almost everyday since last week. not to mention the cooling weather ...).

Anyway, I would like to share the song from the series. The song that i am currently in love with: Without Words by Park Shin Hye (well, the lyrics have some significant meaning to me).

(Translation taken from youtube.com)
I shouldn't have done that
I should have pretended not to know
Like I didn't see it, like I couldn't see it
I shouldn't have looked at you in the first place

I should have ran away
I should have pretended i wasn't listening
Like i didn't hear it, like i couldn't hear it
I shouldn't have heard your love in the first place

Without a word you made me know love
Without a word you gave me love
Because you took just a breath and ran away like this

Without a word you made me know love
Without a word you gave me love
Because you took just a breath and ran away like this,
Wondering what to say next, my lips are surprised
Because it came without a word

Why doest it hurt so much?
Why doest it hurt continuously?
Except for the fact that i cant see you anymore
And that you are not here anymore

Without a word love leaves me
Without a word love abandons me
Otherwise its the same as before
Without a word you make me know love
Without a word you gave me love

Because you took just a breath and ran away like this
Without a word love leaves me
Without a word love abandons me
Wondering what to say next, my lips were surprised
Without a word love leaves me
Without a word love abandons me

Without a word you made me know love
Without a word you gave me love
Because you took just a breath and ran away like this
Without a word love leaves me
Without a word love abandons me
Wondering what to say next, my lips were surprised
Because it came without a word

I shouldn't have done that
I should have pretend not to know
Like i didn't see, like i couldn't see
I shouldn't have looked at you in the first place .....

Doing the Impossible

My 5th semester is about to come to an end.. but before that there's the FINALE!

As of from now, I have less than 60hours to create a whole working website from ZERO for a client as my final assignment of this semester!!!

I am starting to feel the impossible since I am still sick since I came back from my short trip back to Penang.

Nonetheless, since I've promised my lecturer that I will definitely finish the website and present it to the client on Monday, I guess I have no choice but to pour all out till the very last energy I have.

I meant what I say and promise SO I AM DEFINITELY going to try my very best to accomplish it!

COME ON EILEEN! 60 more hours of hardwork!!!!

FIGHTING!

Randomness at 1U

sitting for 2 hours at NewYorkNewYork Deli at 1U.

Food sucks!

So can you see why the boring, sad face??

But there's one not too bad looking guy there lah. he smiled at me.. so my day couldn't had been that bad right? ahahhaha

Can't Fight This Feeling....anymore

After 5 months, suddenly "it" came back haunting me and I guess the lyrics of this song describe it all....

I can't fight this feeling any longer
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship, has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show

And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winters night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might

And I cant fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars
Baby, I cant fight this feeling anymore

My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I've been running round in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I'm following you, girl
Cause you take me to the places that alone I'd never find

And even as I wander I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window on a cold, dark winters night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might

And I cant fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever

Cause I cant fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crushing through your door
Baby, I cant fight this feeling anymore.

29 hours to go...

29 hours to go to Lucid's first ever TVC (television commercial) presentation...

anxious, nervous, excited... basically it is a mix of emotions.

Anxious because this assignment is super duper IMPORTANT for this semester. If fail this assignment means fail two subjects out of four subjects.

Nervous because I am not sure who is(are) our guest judge(s) yet. We might have people from the industry coming in to judge us or we might have a whole group of lecturers from the faculty, we might not.. so... it's pretty scary....

Excited  because one assignment is about to end ... and 2 more to go.... so yea... that's something worth looking forward to.

Wish us luck!!!

Btw, here's a teaser poster :D

Oral Test

Today, someone told me I speak English like a chinese educated girl. *LOL!*

After 19 years of English education, no Mandarin class or speaking lesson and being labeled as English-shit and "banana" (Chinese who don't speak mandarin)- I speak Mandarin-English slang!!

FUN-TARS-TIC!

MUAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHA!

I am not angry nor sad over that comment. It just made me realize that I am currently deprive from speaking good English on a daily basis. The only English oral conversation I had in 4 days over the weekends are less than a minute of conversation over the phone with the food delivery service lady. So imagine the "opportunity" i have in practicing my Ing-glish oral skill....

English was never be my favourite subject in school - not even now. To be honest, I HATE English the most when I was in high school besides Biology.

Anyway, I am not really a language person. :P I am more of a Maths and Arts person. I never master English grammar like how well I understand the mathematic equations.  I can get 99% for my maths paper easily, but never for my English. So hell yea! i am cool with it. :D

Let my art and design speak for me instead of me speaking of them.  :D

Time Relapse

@8am:
Q: I am brushing my teeth. But am I brushing my teeth because I just woke up? or I am brushing my teeth because I am going to bed?
A: I am just preparing to go to bed.

@3pm:
Q: I am eating. Am I having my lunch or dinner or was it breakfast?
A: If first meal of the day after I wake up is breakfast, then breakfast it is. If not, it is actually my breakfast + lunch + dinner. Seriously? Yes! At the moment, I have only one heavy meal a day. I am NOT on diet. In fact, I am trying to put on weight... but the food here sucks and not to mention the condition of the refrigerator in my house....

@12am:
Q: Time to sleep. Is it my sleeping time or is it working time?
12 am is working time. In fact, I am most productive after 12am. I guess I am a rat in my past life - active at night or I might be any other nocturnal creature - an owl maybe?

So basically my time zone is now a mess. I used to sleep at 4am or 5am and wake up at 11am. but now, this week, I am sleeping at 9am or 10am and waking up at 12pm. Seriously, I think I am killing myself slowly.....

and my hand

Yea it is on bandage. Why? Because I spend a lot of time working with the mouse.

and if you have not notice, even my ring finger and baby finger are tape together because the mouse is too small for my hands and long usage of it gives both my fingers cramp. So, I tape them together

Yea I know I am slowly going insane. I just need to find the time to take a good rest.... but I don't have the time ... yet. Too much work to do and complete...

and my 5 years old digital compact, Canon Ixus camera is dying. It is not dead. It is dying. The camera lens is no longer able to focus properly and sometimes it just won't switch on. And when it don't switch on, I have to bang it hard a few times (tips from several online forums I went to) and  when it does and able to detect images, it doesn't mean the auto focus is working.

this is what happen when it is able to take pictures but the auto focus is not functioning

So again, I need to knock the side and the auto focus will come back on. And I will then get a clear picture like this below....

I guess I won't be getting my iphone already. I need a new compact camera for me to bring around easily. My D80 is just too huge to be portable. So at the moment I am eyeing Panasonic Lumix ZS3. I can't decide which colour.

Black is good looking...

... but red is SEXY

So which colour will you choose?

Stresssssssssssssssss

As I stare at the blank ceiling in my room, room pitch dark and the only light source are the LED lights on the modem and router blinking away, I yawned non-stop and yet I can't fall asleep.

Head's spinning.
Head's stuffed with stress.
Head is filled with pressure to think about a lot of things, while the clock besides me starts ticking, every seconds and every minute passed by, the yawning become more frequent and i know i am starting to get more tired as the brainstorming goes on and on in my head, but I am still not sleeping.

I start to doubt myself, my competency, my creativity...my future job prospect.... maybe I am just NOT IT, just a little useless crap....

sigh..... my life is a bitch now........

and my stomach starts to growl but the searching for the Eureka is still going on in my head.....

STRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Sepet Collection

my collection of Yasmin Ahmad's films....

Are some of you surprised I actually buy original DVDS?

eh, i am not all 100% piracy one okay. (Let's not mention other dvds i have :P).

In 2005, when I bought the VCD of Sepet, I have to hide it under my bed so my mom won't find it because it cost me RM19.90. But today Mukshin on DVD is only RM13.90. So, please support the local film industry, buy ORIGINAL LOCAL film movies!  :D

ps: waiting to add Talentime to my collection. Someone please do tell me when it is available on sale. :D

Ant Stinks!

Yea! Seriously they do!

Did I actually smell an ant?

Apparently, I did --- after I squashed them.

Ever wonder why every time you kill an ant the rest of the ants goes hyperactive?

So here's how the story goes:

During my high school days when I was "active" in guiding, I used to have lots of fun building gadgets (those bamboo/"bakau" structure not the electronic devices) and there was once I got bitten by an ANT during one of those time. My hand was swollen like a mexican bun, it's itchy, caused me a fever and worst of all, I had to get a jab because I am allergic to the sting from the ant ( i think that's what the doctor said :P). So yea.. after that incident, I've made myself killer of all ants, created a pledge that I will kill all ants near me...

No-lah. Not that dramatic ... yet.

My room was under attack by ants for the past 2 weeks and from my investigation, I found out that the ants are marching to my room from a hole in the wall between my room n the room next to me. I have no idea what is on the other side of the wall as I have not seen that housemate of mine more than 20 times times over a year that I've been staying here. It is not that I am never home it just that I never hear her going to classes nor getting out of the house. Maybe when she did, I am not around.  Anyway, back to the ants... I was having ants killing sprees over the past 2 weeks and it has become a normal daily routine to me. After each ants-extreme-killing session, I always wonder why is there always  chemical-ish smell every time after that.... so I made a hypothesis that ants stinks.

To prove that my hypothesis is right, I did an experiment today. I squashed an ant and smelled my hand. (i know this is gross, but what are human senses for if we don't fully utilize them right?). So, from my finding, I AM RIGHT! My hand smells of a weird chemical smell. So to get more proof,  I went up to google and type "ant smells" and found a Yahoo! answer link with the title "Why do ants smells when you kill them?"

From further reading from the answers, I found this link. let me summarize it:
  • the body of an ant (depending on genus and species) has an average around 10 glands producing different chemicals for defense, communication, alarm, trail marking and anti-bacterial and anti-fungal purpose.
  •  therefore, when you crush an ant, the dead ant voluntarily release the alarm chemicals to alert other ants which will then the rest into hyperactive mode. This is when u start to see the rest of the ants "running for their lives"
  • BUT when you crush an ant, you don't just release the alarm system, you also release the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal chemicals (that's the chemical that got them to survive their kingdom living in soils which is the perfect place for fungal growth and that means they keep things sterile).
so some might ask, is it safe to eat a cookie that ants had been crawling on?
  • the article said, "The cookie was probably cleaner after the ants had touched it" and that the smell after you crush them "is not the smell of fear and death, but also the smell of true cleanliness and health"

ok... now that H1N1 is on the wild, maybe we should grow more ants and help us sterilized everything around us. Ahahaa (I AM JUST JOKING) or maybe we should eat an ant a day to keep us healthy. Who wanna help me prove that, "An ant a day, keeps the doctor away"?

what do you think?

Roti Arab

Do you know how Roti Arab (Arabic Bread) taste like? Have you seen it?

Today, I decide to give it a try as i ran out ideas of what to cook for myself and here's how my dinner looks like.

arabic bread
Arabic bread/Roti Arab is also known as pita bread to some. But it was printed on the packaging that it is called Roti Arab/Arabic bread. Anyway, I reheat this pita bread with my rice cooker (thanks to Pop's brilliant idea) and suddenly I realize how useful rice cooker can be :D

No Henrick. No soya milk this time. LOL! But instead I used DutchLady low fat milk as a substitute of coconut milk. Today i tried another type of curry paste and it tasted so much nicer, just like how my aunt would cook it and the pita bread really taste nice when eat with the curry. The curry looks spicy and IT IS indeed spicy. Although it is spicy, I finish the whole bowl of curry myself with 2 slice of pita bread and i feel like a dragon now - ready to blow out balls of fire from my mouth :D

Let just say, I just had a great dinner :D

Rendang Soya Milk Curry

Photobucket
I cooked this last night. Some of you might wonder, why cook with soya milk. so EWWWW! Sure get diarrhea one!

Good news is, no i did not have any diarrhea! ahahha. it does taste a little weird, a little (not much) and soya milk is all I have since I do not wish to cook with coconut milk. It's healthier afterall u know :P

Bubba Gump Day

2 weeks ago, Pop and I went to Bubba Gump @ The Curve for lunch. Food is not that nice but the settings is very homey, exotic and when it was lunch time, it was no longer an ideal place for me because it's too noisy. The sittings are set quite near to one another so.. imagine the noisy when everyone start talking at the same time ....

Anyway, I had a fun time there and not to mention the "rules" of the restaurant is quite unique and furthermore, it is influence by the award winning movie, Forest Gump.

These are the "rules" i am talking about:

Photobucket
when you are fooling around, cam whoring with a bottle of ketchup like me, doing nothing, this is the sign you need to flash to the waiter/waitress: "Run Forrest Run"

Photobucket
STOP FORREST STOP: when you need any assistance, or when you are ready to order, that is the car plate sign you need to show.

Photobucket
and that's Pop and me. We flash "Stop Forrest Stop" sign and the waitress came to our aid to help us take a pic. She insisted that we should put the sign back to "Run Forrest Run" before she take the picture :D

Photobucket
and that's Pop with the so called ping pong bat menu

Photobucket
which is attached to the bucket -.-"

Photobucket
and they even have a whole lot of different bottles of sauces behind me but unfortunately those are for display purpose only. not for my consumption. :P

Photobucket
that's my main dish. i forgot what it's called. Taste is average but I love shrimps and to be able to enjoy that as my birthday lunch, I just couldn't ask for more :D

Photobucket
and that's the cranberry yogurt drink. NICE! I LURRRVE cranberries

Photobucket
and that's Pop's fish and chip (kid's meal) and it comes with a paper ship! SOOOO CUTE!

and when I reach home at night, I had a surprise-dominos-pizza-birthday-party waiting for me at the living room. Thanks to all my housemates. You guys really make my day!

Photobucket
from left: Sherlyn, Jane, Me, Christine, Marli, Pop

Photobucket
see how the lighting at my living room is so cozy and romantic? basically the truth is, all the spotlights burnt out and the owner has yet to replace it for us. ahaha

as for presents, I get a few more books :D BRAVO!
Photobucket
I just love books! especially STORY BOOKS! Thank you!

Project: Experiment 1

This is my first experiment.

These are not photo manipulated pictures

This is known as augmented reality where the user will need to flash a printed pattern in front of their web cam and the 3d image will appear as if its on top of the paper and that's going to be my proposal for my final project if everything goes well......wish me luck!

Stay tune!

19th August

19th August is indeed a special day - for me.

And now it is even made more special because Yasmin Ahmad's last film, "Chocolate" is release today - just as the clock struck 12am at 0000hour - on my special day.

Some of you might have think this is so lame why-lah this video so special? It is just a Malaysian video nia mah. Last film only what!

NO! No! No!

Yasmin Ahmad had inspired me in so many ways. Her films, her work and her personality. She is truly someone that I respect and admire a lot, a lot, a lot for her talent and creativity in telling heart touching movies/films and TV ads during the festive season. In fact her contributions to the country's film industry is just beyond recognition. She's someone that I wish I will have the opportunity to meet with one day - but now there isn't anymore since she had just pass away on the 25th of July 2009 at the age of 51.  :(

I think Chocolate is just BRILLIANT! The message in the video is just so powerful. What I get was - "Parents have a very important role to play to make this country a better place. Parents are the ones that will influence and teach their children to be just like them - racist or not racist"

Anyway, for those of you who have no idea what this film and 15Malaysia project is all about, do check out www.15Malaysia.com. It is a project initiated by Pete Teo (a local artist/singer whose songs i listen to) in collaboration with 15 local filmmakers and many local artist to produce 15 short films for the people of Malaysia in conjunction with the Merdeka (Independence Day) Month. One short movie will be release in every 2 days til 16th of September 2009 and all contents are available legally for download and share. Please show your support to the local industry and I can assure you that the films made are worth your time spend watching them. You will never regret.

Do watch the making of Chocolate too. It is after all Yasmin - the story teller, and Yasmin - the filmmaker's last movie. I am gonna so miss her, her blog, her commercials and her films.

ps: do feel free to express any of your thoughts about the video "Chocolate" or about the legendary Yasmin Ahmad here on my comment page.

A Dark Chocolate Affair

Do you know dark chocolate turns women on more than a passionate kissing session?

Really?

YEAH! According to research, dark chocolates stimulates endorphin production which gives the feeling of pleasure. So now, we know why guys buy chocolates for girls on Valentine's Day and why girls love to receive them :P

Apart from just that, dark chocolates have many other health benefits compare to milk or white chocolate which taste better and sweeter. Dark chocolates are bitter but they are beneficial to health because:
  1. it helps to protect the body from aging caused by free radicals as dark chocolates contains antioxidants ( nearly 8 times the number found in strawberries)
  2. it is good for the skin
  3. it helps to lower the blood pressure for individuals with high blood pressure
  4. it helps to lower cholesterol - reducing the bad cholesterol by up to 10%
  5. it contains serotonin which acts as an anti depresent
My favourite of all dark chocolates is of course the Lindt's 85% cocoa Extra Fine Dark Chocolate.

Price: around RM12

And today I found a cheap replacement for my cravings for Lindt's ...

Price: RM4

YES! Seriously they only cost RM4 per bar and they are imported all the way from FRANCE. Seriously this is a good bargain especially with all those health benefits and not to mention they taste good too. Not bad for the price. Normally, you can't even get a bar of dark chocolate at just RM4! Even the local brands are not that cheap. I am very choosy when it comes to chocolates especially those locally produced chocolate (eg: Beryls, Vochelle, Nestle and etc). Even M&M available in Malaysia market (which are made in Thailand) is a crap compare to the ones imported from the states. Yes! I am just that choosy - they just do taste different to me - as according to my taste bud.

Anyway, I bought 2 bars of Carrefour branded dark chocolate today (before trying it) and I regretted that I did not get more :( But this 2 bars are good enough to keep me satisfied and pleasured for a week. :D

Danger of Portable Gas Stove

Few months ago I receive a forwarded email from my cousin about the danger of portable gas stove. If you have no idea, this is how a portable gas stove looks like

In the email, it says that a lady name Kaori, her mother and daughter, like all typical Japanese and Korean family was using the portable gas cooker to cook their meals during a family gathering party when suddenly the gas stove exploded and all three of them got caught on fire and suffered severe burns. Below is the picture of Kaori taken shortly after the incident (according to the email).

and below is the image of the malfunction gas stove

So upon reading the email, my aunt was urging me to discard the portable cooker I was using and buy an induction cooker instead. But that time, my friend, Lollipop loan me her induction cooker (which i mention in my previous post) which i failed to operate it and due to lag of time to buy a new induction cooker, I did not care much, ignore the forwarded email warning and continue to use the portable gas stove for a month.

Then this month when I came back to KL (after a month of holiday back in my hometown), my housemate happily told me that she just bought one of those portable gas stove when we went out together for groceries shopping. Then the next day, after our grocery shopping trip, she told me that while she was cooking breakfast, her stove suddenly exploded and the stove was on fire. Luckily she was able to remove the butane gas can fast enough to avoid further explosions and praise the Lord that she's safe and there were no injuries.

So today, we went out to get an induction cooker each.

my new induction cooker that comes together with a stainless steel pot which i bought at RM169.

I have no idea how safe this thingy going to be, but hopefully it is safer than the portable gas stove. This fellow has a few presets and the temperature and the time can be set accordingly to my own preference and there is even a PAUSE button! YES, i can pause while cooking halfway! how cool is that? hahhaha

one disadvantage of using this induction cooker is that I can only use with specific cookware - those that are made of stainless steel or those that have a magnetic field base. This is because " An induction cooker works like an electrical transformer: it transfers electrical energy onto the pot using a time-varying magnetic field" (wikipedia). That means, the teflon non-sticky pot that I love so much to fry eggs and pancakes that does not have magnetic response base basically is now useless with this induction cooker. DAMN IT!! That means, I will need to spend time scrubbing the stainless steel pot each time after I cook! *cries*

ps: that's the reason why I couldn't get the two eggs to boil (previous post). The pot I was using does not have any magnetic field and hence the cooker won't even heat up.
